Shown in this picture at the right is the old Levi Whitmarsh barn. On this site probably stood, in 1801, the house of Henry Thornbury Smith, son of Joseph Smith who appears to have lived in the Whitmarsh place. It was the tradition in the Hayward family (told by George L. H.) that this barn was very old, much older than the Hayward barn in the rear of Manley Whitmarsh's house. The Lincoln house is at 338 Summer Street.
