Newly found evidence points to Sept. 19, 1899 as the date of this picture. Judge Benjamin Winslow Harris welcomed the members of the Old Bridgewater Historical Society to Standish Grove for the first time. He was speaker of the day and read a paper on early proprietors. Standish Grove had just been purchased for $100.00 and $50.00 was spent for clearing the brush for a platform and seats. It was a pleasant grove of pines across the river from the Carver Cotton Gin Company.
